Cost of college went up for non-resident students at Lassen Community College

In-state tuition and fees were unchanged for 2018-19 at Lassen Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

California residents paid $1,127 to attend the two-year public institution in both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.

Non-resident students would have paid 549.4 percent more than residents this year, or $7,319. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 23 percent from $5,951 in 2017-18.

About 93 percent of the school's undergraduate population are California residents. And about 2 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 76 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 118 students received grants or scholarships totaling $525,298 and 12 students took out student loans totaling more than $50,543.

Including all undergraduates (2,660), 1,826 students used grants or scholarships totaling $2.7 million, and 43 students took out $225,078 in federal student loans.
