Modoc Joint Unified School District's schools enrolled 832 students in the 2022-23 school year, 0.6% less than the previous year, according to the California Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 49.9% of them were girls, and 49.6% were boys.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, making up 65.2% of the Modoc Joint Unified School District's total enrollment.

Modoc Joint Unified School District covers six schools within Modoc County with its main office in Alturas.

Among the six schools in Modoc Joint Unified School District, Alturas Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 389 students in the 2022-23 school year.

In the last decade, enrollment in California elementary and secondary schools rose by at least 5%, while high school enrollment dropped 5%.

However, overall enrollment in California public schools is sliding, and the Public Policy Institute of California expects it to drop another 8% by the 2031-32 school year.
